Catherine Ashton
Catherine Ashton has reportedly been appointed as Federica Mogherini’s special adviser on Iran’s nuclear talks. Reuters reports that Federica Mogherini, who took over the position of EU foreign policy chief from Ashton on November 1, has appointed Ashton as her representative to facilitate the nuclear talks with Iran and the 5+1.
Iran and the world powers announced that they are extending the talks until July 1, which is the latest deadline set by the parties to reach a final and comprehensive deal on the nuclear disputes.
The previous deadline was in November, but the parties have now given themselves another seven months.
Ashton has served at the head of the 5+1 delegation in recent years.
