Activist Ghoncheh Qavami has been released on bail from Evin Prison in Tehran. Qavami was recently sentenced to one year in jail and a two-year ban on traveling abroad for the charge of “propaganda against the regime”.
Qavami was first arrested for trying to enter a stadium with a group of women to watch a volleyball game. They were all released but Qavami was arrested again shortly afterward and charged with propaganda against the regime.
A source close to Qavami’s family reported that she has been released on bail until the appeals court reviews the decision, and she appears to be in good spirits.
Qavami’s arrest for trying to enter the volleyball stadium aroused widespread outrage; however, the authorities claim her charges are not sports related.
