Thousands of Iranian workers took part in a rally on Thursday November 20 organized by Tehran Manufacturing and Service Workers, protesting the government's attempts to change the country's employment legislation to the benefit of employers.
ILNA reports that in a statement marking 24 years since the passing of the Employment Act, the workers stress that a strong force is seeking to change the provisions of the legislation that provide protection to workers.
The proposed changes to Articles 7, 27, and 165 of the Employment Act, according to the workers' groups will destroy the last remnants of job security and legal protest rights for workers.
In their statement, the workers call on the Rohani administration and specifically labour minister Ali Rabii to stand behind their demands and block the attempt to erode their rights with the proposed legislative changes.
