Lawyers protest in solidarity with suspended colleague

A group of Iranian lawyers stages a sit-in in front of Iranian Bar Association offices in Tehran to protest the suspension of human rights lawyer, Nasrin Sotoudeh's licence.

The group that gathered at the Bar Association on Tuesday November 18 included many of Sotoudeh's peers from across the country as well as several civic activists.

Last month the Iranian Bar Association suspended Sotoudeh's licence for three years following a request submitted by Evin Prison court citing her time served in prison as a dissident as the basis of its request.

Sotoudeh has protested against the suspension insisting on her right to work despite being a dissident.

On several occasions Sotoudeh has been pressured by security forces to stop her protests in front of the Bar Association.

Sotoudeh has written: "For years, the Iranian government has deprived dissidents of the right to live, study and work; I protest against this deprivation."
