Abbas Araqchi, the Iranian deputy foreign minister, has announced that the next round of nuclear talks between Iran and the 5+1 is set for November 11 in Muscat.
This is one week earlier than indicated in the previous statements by EU officials, who reported the next round would convene on November 18 in Vienna.
The parties had set a November 24 deadline for reaching a final and comprehensive agreement to resolve the nuclear disputes.
Araqchi also stated that prior to the talks in Muscat, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will have their own meeting there.
While Catherine Ashton will no longer be serving as EU foreign policy chief as of November 1, she will continue mediating the nuclear talks between Iran and the 5+1.
The chief topics of concern at this stage are the level of Iran’s uranium enrichment activities and the timeline for lifting international sanctions against Iran.
