Reyhaneh Jabbari was executed on Saturday morning October 25 in Rejai Shahr Prison in Karaj. The Tehran Prosecutor’s office announced that the office’s efforts to mediate reconciliation with the victim’s family failed; therefore, Jabbari’s Qesas sentence was carried out on Saturday.

Jabbari was arrested at the age of 19 for the murder of Morteza Abdolali Sarbandi. She had claimed that the act was done in self-defence against a sexual assault. The deceased was 47 at the time.

Several campaigns were launched to prevent Jabbari’s execution. However the family of the deceased refused to forego their right to Qesas, and Jabbari was finally executed today, Saturday October 25.

Reports indicate that three other prisoners sentenced to death today were released from the death penalty through the mercy of families of their victims.
