Presence of female musicians stops concert despite proper permit

The music group Erfan was prevented from holding a concert in Isfahan because women were part of the group. The concert was cancelled even though the group had the necessary permit from the Ministry of Culture and Guidance.

ISNA reports that Pirouz Arjomand, the head of the ministry’s music department, said: “The group was to go on stage after arranging all necessary permits and coordination with the ministry; however, the concert was unfortunately stopped because of the presence of women among the musicians.”

He added: “These actions are not condoned by the Ministry of Culture and Guidance and we are firmly against this issue.”
In recent months, a number of concerts across the country have been cancelled for similar reasons.

Arjomand had reported in August that a group referred to as the Council of Concerts, which is operating outside of legal parameters under the supervision of Security Forces, has been making arbitrary decisions and even rescinding permits issued by the Ministry of Culture and Guidance.
