Activist filmmaker detained for one day, reportedly beaten
Mohammad Nourizad

Mohammad Nourizad, an Iranian political filmmaker and activist, reported on his Facebook page that he was released from Evin Prison on Sunday October 13 after a one-day arrest.

Nourizad posted a photo of himself and a report about his release on his Facebook page and thanked his supporters.

He was reportedly arrested on Saturday while walking near Pasteur Street, near the home of MirHosein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard, where the two opposition leaders have been under house arrest since February 2011. Nourizad was reportedly beaten during his arrest.

Nourizad had reported earlier on Facebook that he would take protest walks in the vicinity of Pasteur Street starting October 12.

Nourizad has already been walking around buildings used by the Ministry of Intelligence and Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, demanding that these bodies return the personal belongings they have confiscated from him.

Nourizad is one of the supporters of the Islamic Republic regime who has become a serious critic of the government since the controversial 2009 election.

He has been arrested on several occasions and previously was only released following several hunger strikes.
