
Iranian media report that President Hassan Rohani, who is currently in New York attending the UN General Assembly, will go directly to Russia in order to attend the meeting of summit of the Caspian states.
The fourth summit of the Caspian states will take place in Astrakhan on September 29 with the presidents of the five Caspian coastal states.
This will be President Rohani’s second meeting with his Russian counterpart in the less than a month.
The summit’s agenda includes the approval of provisions for the new legal regime of the Caspian Sea, which gained three new states on its shores with the dismantling of the Soviet Union, namely Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.
The first Caspian summit was held in Ashkhabad, Turkmenistan, the second in Tehran and the third in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Caspian Sea is the largest lake in the world.
