The young Iranians who were arrested for making a music video for the Pharrel Williams song “Happy” have been sentenced to jail terms and lashes.
The Human Rights Activists News Agency reports that Reyhaneh Taravati has been sentenced to one year in jail, and the rest of the group, Sasan Soleymani, Neda Motameni, Afshin Sohrabi, Bardia Moradi, Raham Shamekhi and Sepideh, have been sentenced to six months in jail and 91 lashes.
The defence attorney told Iran Wire that he has finally received the sentences, adding that the sentences have been suspended for three years.
He explained that a three-year suspended sentence means that if his clients receive another sentence during the three years, this sentence will be added to it and will have to be served. If the three years pass with no further convictions, the sentence is nullified. He added that his clients have not yet indicated whether they want to appeal the sentence.
The group was arrested last May after posting their video version of “Happy” entitled “Happy in Tehran.” They were released the next day.
