Iran’s Greco-Roman Wrestling team has won the world championship in this discipline for the first time, with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
Hamid Sourian won gold in the 59 kg category, breaking Abdollah Movahed’s record of six gold medals won in world and Olympic championships. Movahed won his final gold medal in 1970 in Canada.
Sourian, having already won six gold medals, managed to score another gold medal in these championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Iranian wrestler Omid Noroozi received the silver medal in the 60 kg category, while bronze medals went to Afshin Biyabangard in the 71 kg category and Ghassem Rezai in the 98 kg category.
