Iranian reformists are planning a coalition between supporters of Mohammad Khatami, Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani and Mohammadreza Aref in the coming parliamentary election.
Hassan Rasouli, a board member of the Iranian Hope Foundation, told ILNA on Sunday September 14 that the three figures have decided to participate in the next parliamentary elections as a united front in light of their “successful experience” in the last presidential election.
In the 2013 presidential election, candidate Mohammadreza Aref withdrew from the race halfway through the campaign in favour of the remaining reformist candidate, Hassan Rohani, who went on to win the election with a significant majority with support from Ayatollah Hashemi and Mohammad Khatami.
Iran’s parliamentary election is slated for early 2016.
