Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps and Jeysh-ol-Adl forces have issued conflicting announcements regarding an armed confrontation at a border station in Saravan in Sistan-Baluchistan Province.
The report issued by the IRGC indicates that on September 9, assailants tried to take control of the border office but they were “dispersed after sustaining heavy casualties.” The IRGC statement does not name any specific group and only indicates that the assailants were trying to enter Iran from Pakistan.
The statement by Jeysh-ol-Adl, the militant group that fights against the Islamic Republic, states that it exploded a car bomb near a border station by remote control. It claims the border office burned down.
The IRGC took over guarding the border in the region five months ago, when 14 border officers were killed in an attack by Jeysh-ol-Adl forces.
