Iranian media report that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has undergone prostate surgery. The Central News Unit reports that the surgery was carried out in a public hospital and “was carried out with success.”
ISNA quotes Ayatollah Khamenei saying before the surgery that “there is no cause for concerns” as he called for people’s prayers.
Iranian media usually do not publish much news regarding Ayatollah Khamenei’s health. Even the news of his current surgery has been published without much detail.
Ayatollah Khamenei's medical team have reported that the surgery was carried out successfully under local anesthesia.
Ayatollah Khamenei was born in 1939 and he took over the position of Supreme Leader in 1989. In the early years of the 1979 Revolution, Ayatollah Khamenei was a victim of a bombing in a Tehran Mosque which caused him to loose function of his right arm.
