Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton in Brussels on Monday September 1 and later expressed confidence that the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the 5+1 have a good chance of reaching a resolution by the November 24 deadline.
Zarif told a press conference: “I am quite optimistic after discussions with Lady Ashton that we can in fact resolve this issue in time.”
Reuters reports that following a separate meeting with his Belgian counterpart, Didier Reynders, Zarif told reporters: “I hope, with the readiness and political will that I see in all parties to this discussion, to have a resolution within the next three months.”
The Iranian delegation will meet with the 5+1 delegation on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly this month.
Zarif is set to travel to Rome to meet with Federica Mogherini, the Italian foreign minister, who is taking over Ashton’s role in the EU government.
