Female photojournalist freed on bail

The Washington Post reports that its female photojournalist who was detained by Iranian authorities a month ago has now been released on bail. The daily has refrained from releasing the name of the photojournalist upon the request of her family; however, it has indicated that she holds dual Iranian-U.S. citizenship.

On July 22, Iranian authorities arrested Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian, his wife, Yeganeh Saleh, a reporter for National, as well as a female photojournalist and her husband.

The Washington Post reports that the U.S. State Department is in negotiation with Iranian officials for the release of Jason Rezaian.

Rezaian hold Iranian-U.S. citizenship and his wife is an Iranian citizen.

On July 30, Reuters reported that one of Rezaian’s companions, whose wife is a photojournalist, had been released. The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran reported later that the man appeared to be under a great deal of stress and had gone into complete isolation after his release.

The Washington Post has described the arrest of these journalists as the response of extremists in Iran to the Rohani administration’s moderate policies.
