Victims of the recent earthquake in the Mormori region of Ilam Province protested during the visit of the Minister of Roads and Urban Development and demanded the provision of aid and resources needed to overcome their ordeal.
The Mehr News Agency reports that Abbas Abbas Akhondi arrived in the Mormori region on Wednesday August 20 to visit victims of the earthquake that struck the region two days ago, leaving thousands of families homeless.
The people are reportedly faring badly, lacking shelter in temperatures that have reached as high as 50 degrees Celsius. The minister was called on to provide cold water, food and tents for the numerous households that have been left without a home.
An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale hit the region on August 18, injuring scores of people and leaving many more homeless.
The Ilam governor has released a damage estimate of 1 trillion rials.
