The head of Iran’s Airport Police announced that 120 kg of opium headed for London was sniffed out by their dogs. The Mehr News Agency reports that on Sunday August 17, Hassan Mehri told reporters that the opium shipment was found by their dogs during a routine patrol of shipments at Imam Khomeini Airport.
The report indicates that 120 kg of opium was found in 13 industrial gears, where it had even escaped detection by an x-ray inspection of the shipments.
Mehri reported that four people have been arrested in connection with this matter, adding: “Export companies should avoid handling anonymous shipments and consistently maintain exact information about those who are sending goods.”
So far this year, 197 kg of drugs have been discovered passing through Imam Khomeini Airports in Tehran, Mashhad, Kerman, Bandar Abbas and Zahedan.
