
Hours after the crash of an Antonov “Iran 140” passenger airplane near Mehrabad Airport, Iranian President, Hassan Rohani issued an order banning the flight of all similar airplanes until the completion of investigations into the cause of the crash.
Rohani expressed deep regret about the accident, which so far has had a death toll of 39, and he called on his minister of urban development to present a complete report on the incident.
The Iran 140 airplane operated by Sepahan airlines fell just minutes after takeoff on Sunday August 10 and burst into flames.
According to the coroner’s report, 22 men, 10 women and three children were killed at the scene and another man was pronounced dead at the hospital. Nine passengers are now being treated for their injuries and some are in critical condition with severe burns.
