The Iranian film community has begun a promotional campaign in support of the war-stricken people of Gaza and, as a part of that, a group of them gathered at the Tehran Centre for Blood Transfer on Saturday July 2 to donate blood to be transferred to Gaza. Among the group on Saturday was the Oscar-winning filmmaker Asghar Farhadi.
The campaign first took shape after Khaled Ghodoumi, a Hamas representative, gave a speech at Shafagh Cultural Centre for a group of Iranian artists.
Three days after the speech and President Rohani’s Iftar banquet to mark the end of Ramadan, a group of veteran and young Iranian filmmakers together with members of the 59 chapters of the Young Cinema Society, composed of filmmakers and photographers across the country, arrived at the Blood Transfer Centres in Tehran and other cities to donate blood for the people of Gaza.
They also issued a statement of support for the children of Gaza, which was signed by numerous famous Iranian filmmakers and artists.
