Iranian government has up to 250 trillion touman debt according to Minister of Economy Ali Tayebnia. He added that the exact amount of the government’s debt is not clear.
Tayebnia told Fars News Agency on Wednesday July 30 that the debt includes 30 to 40 trillion toumans to contractors, 67 trillion to banks and 70 70 trillion toumans to the National Pension Fund.
Tayyebnia added that lack of adequate debt repayment has led to severe strain on various industries and the country's banks.
He went on to criticize the former administration’s economic policies saying had they continued on that path Iranian currency would have further plummeted in value.
