Amnesty International has expressed concern regarding the imminent execution of 22-year-old Rasoul Holoumi, who was convicted of murder five years ago in Iran.
Amnesty International maintains that there are serious doubts about the fairness of the legal proceedings that led to his sentence.
The sentence was issued by the Khuzestan Criminal Court in October of 2010, and Holoumi had been scheduled to be executed on May 4, 2014. The family of the victim, however, agreed to forego their demand for Qesas in exchange for the family's home and farm and 350 million toumans in cash.
The Holoumi family was not able to meet that demand and, therefore, their son is now in imminent danger of execution.
ISNA previously had reported that the family has been given until July 17 to meet the demands of the victim’s family.
