Iran’s leader Ayatollah Khamenei said on Monday that he trusts the Hassan Rohani administration and its nuclear negotiating team.
The statement from Iran’s leader comes in the midst of the sixth round of nuclear talks, and the parties are now two weeks away from the deadline for reaching a final comprehensive agreement.
In a report on his website, Ayatollah Khamenei is quoted addressing a meeting of government officials: “We have confidence in the negotiating team and are certain that they will not allow transgressions against the people’s rights.”
He adds that the future of the country must be considered in the nuclear negotiations.
The Rohani administration and his nuclear negotiation team have been the target of serious criticism by the conservative factions of the Islamic Republic.
Rohani has fought back, saying some factions have been profiting from the sanctions imposed on the country and do not wish the negotiations to reach a resolution.
The support expressed by Ayatollah Khamenei went beyond the negotiating team: “Everyone must know that I support and approve of the administration and will use all my power to assist them. I also want to remind the administration to take the Economy of Resistance seriously.”
The Economy of Resistance is a term coined by Ayatollah Khamenei as a means of overcoming the economic sanctions imposed on Iran by world powers.
