A group of MPs withdrew their call to impeach the Minister of Science and Technology after Minister Reza Farajidana promised to address their concerns in a meeting that included the MPs and parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani.
A spokesman for Parliament’s Education Commission told IRNA that the MPs who had been calling for the impeachment of the Minister of Science met with the presiding board of Parliament together with Reza Farajidana, the minister.
The MPs had presented the board with a proposal to impeach the minister of education, and the reasons were reportedly connected with the recent appointments of new university presidents and the return to class of expelled students and professors.
Some had also suggested that the move was aimed at deterring investigations into the granting of bursaries to allegedly ineligible students by the former administration.
Reza Farajidana’s potential impeachment was recently denounced by 470 professors in a letter to parliamentary speaker Larijani.
