Heavy rains and mudslides have blocked Iran’s north-south rail lines in the Lorestan region.
Lorestan city officials told IRNA on Thursday April 14 that the trains had stopped running on Wednesday to allow for a clean-up of the tracks.
The report adds that a passenger train was derailed on Wednesday due to “unprecedented rain and mudslides”.
Rescue and technical crews have reportedly been busy since yesterday but have been unable to clear the tracks.
The Red Crescent reports that rescue operations have provided services to 200 people affected by the flood and heavy rains in Lorestan.
More severe rainfall has been forecast for this week by meteorological centres in the region.
