No further details have been released regarding the cancellation of Mohammad Javad Zarif’s trip to the neighbouring country.

Reuters reports that the trip’s agenda was expected to include the Syrian conflict.

Iran and Turkey have taken opposing approaches with regard to Syria since the conflict began in that country. While Turkey has shown opposition to the Assad regime, Iran has been supportive of the Syrian government and called for a diplomatic solution to the conflict.

Zarif was scheduled to travel to Beirut this evening and also visit Moscow next week.
