The Tehran Police Department says it has arrested 723 people in connection with cybercrimes in the past eight months.


The Tehran police chief says 609 men and 114 women were detained.

Among the charges listed by the Tehran police are: “distorting information, distribution of obscene audiovisual content, publishing private films and personal content, publishing falsehoods, threats and extortion through the internet, hacking, selling illegal goods, websites against public morality, unauthorized dating sites, financial fraud and embezzlement”.

Police Chief Hossein Sajedinia noted there has not been a significant increase in these crimes compared to last year.
