The Human Rights Activists News Agency has quoted Davoudi himself saying: “A few days before the [Iranian] New Year, they informed me in prison that the appeal court has dropped my death sentence and changed it to five years in jail in exile.”

The report adds that Davoudi will be transferred to Zabol Prison in June.

Davoudi also adds that since Zabol Prison is only a detention centre, he is likely to be transferred to Zahedan Prison.

Davoudi was changed with “Acting against national security, writing a secular manifesto, establishing the Iranian Freedom Movement, blasphemy and insulting the leader” and is currently in Rejai Shahr Prison in Karaj. In August of 2014, he was sentenced to death for the new charge of “support and activities for advancing the objective of the People’s Mujahedin Organization”, an exiled Iranian political group which the Islamic Republic regards as a terrorist group.
