They were arrested on Monday December 14 in Gorgan and, according to HRANA, were held primarily in the Revolutionary Guards detention centre, then were transferred to Amirabad Prison when interrogations were completed.

The charges against the two writers have not been announced, but their arrest was challenged by many of their peers as well as Iran’s Writers’ Association, which issued a statement calling for their release.

GIlasian is the author of a number of books that have been denied the necessary publication permit from the Ministry of Culture and Guidance but were published on websites.
Recent statements from Iran’s Supreme Leader regarding possible cultural infiltration by the West have become a pretext for extremist groups in the Islamic Republic establishment to crack down on artists, especially writers.
