Kokab, Zahra and Nargess Mousavi, the daughters of MirHosein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard, the two opposition leaders who have been under house arrest since 2011, say their mother’s general health has been in serious decline.

According to a report published on the Kaleme website on Wednesday March 8, Rahnavard is suffering from serious and unprecedented digestive and swallowing problems.

The daughters say the prison guards have been dismissive of the problems, which reportedly began two months ago.

They also report that their father’s heart complications are not being monitored adequately, which could lead to serious consequences.

The Mousavis also report that the guards have recently begun stretching their surveillance into their parents’ private quarters, adding that their mother has seriously protested the change.

MirHosein Mousavi, a reformist candidate in the 2009 presidential election, questioned the legitimacy of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s victory with allegations of vote fraud, which led to months of mass protests in his support. In 2011, he and his wife Zahra Rahnavard were put under house arrest and completely cut off from the public. Their daughters are allowed limited visits with their parents.
