A teacher and a police officer were killed in an armed attack on Monday night October 5 in Iranshahr, Sistan-Baluchistan.
The Fars News Agency reports that the attack involved “bandits”; other reports indicate a local teacher was also killed in the incident.
The Iranshahr police chief reports that a police vehicle was “caught in gunfire by the bandits” during routine patrol duties.
Local media report that the incident occurred near a gas station and that Parviz Roshenas, a local teacher who was at the gas station, was injured in the shooting. He reportedly later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
In recent years, armed conflicts are not uncommon in Sistan-Baluchistan Province in southeastern Iran. The police often have to confront drug-trafficking gangs or groups claiming to fight for Baluchi minority rights in the region.
