The spokesman for the judiciary, Gholamhosein Mohseni Ejei, told a press conference in Gorgan on Thursday June 11 that the sentence issued for Mehdi Hashemi has been confirmed by the appeals court.

Daneshjoo News reports that Ejei said the sentence was issued for charges involving embezzlement, bribery and security.

Hashemi’s trial began last August and he has repeatedly protested against the proceedings.

Hashemi used to manage the Optimization of Fuel Consumption. Following the controversial 2008 presidential election, he left the country. Upon his return three years later, he was charged and temporarily arrested.
