An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit city of Shanbeh in the southern region of Bushehr Province on Tuesday December 30. An hour later, another earthquake measured at 4.4 on the Richter scale hit the city of Boushkan.

There have been no reports regarding casualties or damages resulting from the earthquakes.

Both quakes reportedly hit at a depth of ten kilometres. The head of Bushehr Province Emergency Task Force announced that all rescue forces are on alert but there have been no reports of casualties so far.

He confirmed however that crack have been identified in several buildings.

Earthquakes in Bushehr are of special concern since Iran's nuclear power plant is located in this province.

In April, an earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale hit the region causing 37 deaths and destroying 3,000 residential and public buildings.
