Adnan Hassanpour

Adnan Hassanpour, an imprisoned Iranian-Kurdish journalist, has been transferred from Marivon Prison to Zabol Prison in southeastern Iran.

Hassanpour has been in jail for the past five years without being given any furloughs. He was sentenced to death in 2007 for the charge of “enmity against God”, but the sentence was overturned at the Supreme Court. Later, in 2008, he was sentenced to 15 years in jail.

Adnan Hassanpour was one of editors of the Asoo weekly, which was published in both Kurdish and Persian. The weekly was shut down in 2006 on charges of threatening national security and public perception.

In January, Hassanpour was transferred from Sanandaj central prison to Marivon Prison. He is thought to have served a longer consecutive sentence than any other imprisoned Iranian journalist.
