Isfahan University of Technology

The Isfahan University of Technology has closed seven fields of study to female applicants.

ISNA reports that the university is now refusing applications from female students in certain branches of agriculture, natural resources engineering and water resources. These programs are now only open to male applicants.

A number of female applicants pursuing graduate studies have challenged the decision, which they say was taken without regard for the number of female applicants in these fields.

Also this year, Tehran University scrapped its women’s studies department and is no longer offering a degree in the field.

The adverse policies for women in universities have intensified in recent years after Iran’s Supreme Leader pointed to universities as a hotbed of anti-regime sentiment.
