The British foreign ministry has announced that the British foreign secretary will meet with his Iranian counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

William Hague is said to welcome the opportunity to also meet with Iranian President Hassan Rohani, but so far no such meeting has been scheduled.

The British foreign ministry has announced that Hague will discuss Iran’s nuclear program, the Syrian Conflict and the situation in the Middle East with his Iranian counterpart.

Since an attack on the British Embassy two years ago, Iran and Britain have severed all diplomatic ties and the British embassy in Tehran and the Iranian embassy in London have been closed down.

The British Prime Minister has welcomed the change in the Iranian administration but has been quoted as saying that he still sees many obstacles to restoring relations with Iran.
