Iranian journalist Hengameh Shahidi suffered a stroke last night, on April 11, and is currently under care in a hospital in Tehran.

Shahidi’s daughter has reported on her Facebook page: “Due to the recent pressure, my mother’s heart problems have been aggravated and for the fourth time she has suffered a stroke and is currently – on Thursday April 11 – in the Tehran Clinic CCU.”

Shahidi was arrested during the election protests of 2009 and was held in solitary at Evin Prison. A year later she was sentenced to six years and three months for her journalistic activities with the Etemad Melli daily.
