Marzieh Rasouli

Marzieh Rasouli, a jailed Iranian journalist, was released today in Tehran.

Neday Sabz Azadi reports that Rasouli was released on bail after more than a month in custody.

Rasouli, who has worked with ISNA as well as the Shargh and Etemad dailies, has been accused of threatening national security through cooperation with Persian BBC.

Persian BBC has consistently denied having any collaborators or employees inside Iran.

Iranian authorities have become highly sensitive to the news and content of Persian-language media outlets outside Iran and they are intent on suppressing information from sources inside Iran.

Journalists and media activists inside Iran have been swept by a wave of arrests and accusations, while the Ministry of Intelligence has announced that foreign media and specifically Persian BBC are being used by foreign intelligence services to threaten the Islamic Republic system.

Reporters Without Borders says more than 200 journalists and netizens have been arrested in Iran since 2009.
