A bus accident on Friday night claimed the lives of 26 students in southwestern Iran, Iranian media report.

Officials report that the driver lost control of the bus in rainy weather and the bus overturned, killing 26 students. Another 19 are reported to be injured and were rushed to hospital for treatment. Speeding was reported as the main cause of the accident.

The passengers were reported to be female high school students from Broujan returning from a trip visiting southern Iran.
